The Outdoor Pursuit
Carl Becker once said "Every man is his own historian", this quote has opened my eyes to the idea that I am creating my own history every moment throughout my life. This leads me to question what I want my history to say about me. At the core of my being I want to provoke feelings of love in myself and others on a daily basis. I want to see the fullest potential of every human be exposed so that this world can be healthier and richer than It is right now. Ever since I could walk I have been influenced by the outdoors. As I have grown, I have voluntarily kept the outdoors in my life and have tried to work with it to gain the most I can. I have come to realize that my lifestyle is identified with the outdoors permanently, and I am happy to keep it that way. I believe that nature has more to offer than what meets the eye, it is my goal in the next 3-5 years to delve deeper into this feeling through expeditions, meditation, yoga, as well general life experiences. I am aware that the outdoor industry or society in general requires a good amount of money; I plan to work, find scholarships, and create savings that will allow my dreams to become my reality. I have found, through my experiences already, a deep connection to the woods and the people I enjoy them with. I think that there is true beauty behind relationships as well as life and I strive to gain a connection to everything that I cross paths with.
I have created a couple of pages outlining why I believe the outdoor pursuits I participate in are productive activities to reach my goals. Click the links that are below the Outdoor Pursuits tab to view the pages on Climbing, Paddling, and Sliding.
TO ME: Outdoor pursuits allow me to connect with nature. I find this being of utmost importance because without this connection, I would not know myself. I find that nature is a catalyst for me to express my characteristics in their most natural form. In nature I get to experience thoughts, emotions, and feelings; when I reflect on these thoughts, emotions, and feelings I realize that nature is provoking them, and then I realize that they are being provoked so that I can address them. Although the raw feelings are sometimes hard to deal with, so is life, and I believe that the best way to go through life is accepting what comes into it, because fighting the current only makes me hurt worse. So, I realize the only way to live is to be accepting of life, accept what nature has to throw at me, if I work with it I can enhance the beauty of every moment.
WE ARE NATURE:The great thing about nature is that it is everywhere. The elements that make up nature also make up our bodies; it is in the air we breath, water we drink, and land that we walk on. Everything is nature because everything comes from the earth. The earth was formed naturally, and it continues to exist naturally with most of the beings on it, except for most humans, humans have seemed to find a way to separate themselves from being included in nature, yet, we do the same things as nature; we go through cycles, we survive off the things around us, and we contain the same elements in our bodies. one of the main differences is that we can think, with thinking comes perceptions, memories, fixed reactions, and duality. We are able to look at someone or something else and say "I am different than that because of this, this, and this". That ability is not all bad, but it definitely allows us to separate ourselves through differences. When we separate, we cannot accomplish the things that are possible with a large conglomerate of people. Lets look at a snowflake, one snowflake, no matter how fast it is moving could not take down a tree, it can move it, or make it look pretty but not snap it at its trunk, However when a large group of snowflakes group up and bounce off each other, an avalanche forms and can break most trees in its path. Humans are like snowflakes, although one of us can make a difference, it takes a lot of us to make a lasting impression.
MANY HAVE FORGOTTEN: There is a challenge for the entire human race; that challenge is to open up to nature and accept that we are part of it. It seems as though it is difficult for humans in this day and age to do that. The lifestyles many humans are living are not resonant with nature, it actually seems that they are opposing nature. Processing foods, changing plant genetics, building giant homes, consuming unneeded things, all of this leads to a separation from nature, and a separation from self. We are all humans on earth, just like there is a whole race of trees on earth, and lions on earth, and dolphins on earth. We may look a little different from each other but we are all part of earth, and that is what really matters!!! By opening up to nature we open up to ourselves, by giving love to nature we give love to ourselves, by giving love to ourselves we give love to the world, when we give love to the world the universe expresses its love to us. WE CAN CREATE POSITIVE CYCLES OR NEGATIVE CYCLES. Open up to the positivity all around and that positive cycle can start in our lives!
