I kayak because It teaches me something more than just how to paddle, it exposes a deeper side to life that I am still unfolding. I also paddle because of the community that is drawn to paddling. I notice that paddlers tend to be adventuresome in spirit, always willing to explore to see for themselves what is around the next bend. Kayaking exposes me to the flow of each moment. When sitting in my boat, especially on a river, I can feel time passing. Every time I get in my kayak I ease into meditation, I can acknowledge every subtle movement and sound the water makes, and I realize that the movement is there for me to dance with. When I slice my paddle into the water I connect with that spot, I then act on it and it acts on me propelling my boat to the desired location. I find peace in the rivers that ensures me that they are here to nourish. I respect the water greatly, and have learned to ask permission before I dance, intuitive feelings arise and my answer is replied. I can choose to ignore the answer or to accept the answer; though through experience I have learned that accepting the answer is the more comfortable path to follow. Life is precious to me, and I would rather dance with the river again in the life I reside in now.
Why do I guide?
I enjoy the guiding experience because I am able to expose people to the natural beauties of nature. I am able to demonstrate that nature can provide challenges that are rewarding and fun! I think it is important to expose people to this type of activity because it creates a strong connection between the group they are with, the natural surroundings, and the guide.
Raft Guest Testimonials
"A group of seven of us went for a raft trip with Tim as our guide. We had spent a full two weeks before the trip helping one of the group's members as she struggled emotionally and mentally about whether or not to actually go. I quietly mentioned something to Tim about how the husband of one of her good friends had perished in a whitewater rafting accident in Alaska. Tim had the group member sit next to him for the first part of the trip. By half way through all of her fear had dissipated and she had a blast, as we all did. We are looking forward to another rafting adventure and are planning to request Tim as our guide. We would recommend him to anyone, and have." Carolyn
"I have been white water rafting many times before BUT this particular rafting trip I took this summer with Whitewater Challengers was the best one yet! Not only was the scenery gorgeous but our instructor, Tim, really made the trip the best for us. Not only was he making us laugh the entire trip down the Husdon but we all felt very safe with him. He was very river savvy. I would highly recommend going whitewater rafting to anyone who has never been before! Especially if Tim is your guide!" Jessica Bregy
"when i went on my senior trip and I got the opportunity to go white water rafting, I had one of the best times of my life. it was beautiful views and Tim; who was our guide, showed us an amazing time. He was funny and knew a lot about the area. Even when one my friends fell out of the raft Tim was quick to act and probably saved her. Tim became a great friend and he made our trip spectacular."
